Furthermore, the Boulevard de la Croisette is the defining axis of Cannes. Two kilometres of grand hotels, palm trees, and seafront facing the Bay of Cannes and the Lérins Islands offshore. The Carlton, the Martinez, and the Majestic each have private event spaces, ballrooms, and terraces that face the sea. The Croisette at dawn, before the day crowd arrives, has a quality of light and emptiness that is exceptional.
Furthermore, the grand hotel ballrooms of Cannes are among the most technically sophisticated event spaces on the Riviera. They can accommodate ceremonies and receptions at scale. The Îles de Lérins
Additionally, two kilometres offshore from Cannes, the Îles de Lérins are accessible by boat in fifteen minutes. Sainte-Marguerite is the larger island. Covered in umbrella pines, with a 17th-century fortress (where the Man in the Iron Mask was imprisoned) and no cars. The island’s abbey and surrounding forest create a completely different atmosphere from the mainland city — silent, ancient, intimate.
Additionally, the island can be used for portrait sessions during a Cannes wedding day, reached by private boat during the gap between the ceremony and the reception. The contrast between the island silence and the city energy makes for a compelling narrative within the photography.
Le Suquet: The Old Town
However, behind La Croisette, the old quarter of Le Suquet climbs the hill above the old port. The streets are narrow and Provençal — ochre walls, shuttered windows, bougainvillea. From the top of Le Suquet, the view takes in the entire Bay of Cannes, from the Esterel headland in the west to the Cap d’Antibes in the east. At sunset, this view is one of the finest on the entire coast.

The Croisette and the Old Town
The boulevard de la Croisette is the defining image of Cannes — the sweep of the bay, the Belle Époque facades of the Majestic and the Carlton, the palm trees, the Mediterranean blue. For wedding photography, the Croisette is at its best in May and early June, when the Film Festival crowds have gone and before the full summer tourist season begins. The early morning light on the bay at this time of year, with the hotels lit from the east and the sea still flat, is beautiful in a way that the crowded afternoons of high summer are not.
Le Suquet, the old town on the hill above the port, is the Cannes that tourists rarely find. The narrow streets, the Romanesque church, the panoramic views over the bay from the terrace at the top — this is a different register entirely, more intimate, more textured, closer to the original character of the fishing village before the hotels arrived. For photography that wants Cannes without the resort quality, Le Suquet is the neighbourhood to be in.
The Lérins Islands
A fifteen-minute boat ride from the Vieux Port of Cannes, the Lérins Islands — Sainte-Marguerite and Saint-Honorat — offer an extraordinary setting for wedding photography that almost no one uses. The Cistercian monastery on Saint-Honorat, still inhabited by monks, sits among maritime pines and vineyards above a coastline of extraordinary clarity. The islands are accessible to the public and free of the resort quality that defines the mainland. For a couple’s session that wants the Mediterranean without the performance, the Lérins Islands are worth the twenty minutes they require to reach.
